While following coverage of Trans Mountain, The Discourse team felt like there was a real lack of clarity about where Indigenous communities stand on the project. So, we partnered with APTN and HuffPost Canada to create a database. It lists all of the communities involved in the consultation process and what we know about their stance.

This series explores the barriers to reconciliation outside of big Canadian cities. While Toronto, Vancouver, Winnipeg and Victoria have publicly prioritized reconciliation — even declaring years of reconciliation — few small communities have followed suit. Although limited capacity and resources can hinder these communities’ reconciliation plans, confusion over what reconciliation means and undercurrents of racism also pose barriers.
